2 for 1

Two posts in one day. Technically, no. But it is two posts in under twelve hours. When’s the last time you saw that? Huh? Huh? Yeah, I can’t remember either. To the point then: I was catching up on some news…the Planet Gnome sort. Someone mentioned that they had given in, and created a myspace profile. For the record (and those who don’t already know): I hate myspace. I was about ready to fly into a blind rage, and delete my profile, until I got there, and saw some friend requests, and new messages and such. Jon posted 2 comments, and I’d like to take a moment to say, “I miss you guys too”. Read more

small update

I’ve got some good news, and some bad news. The bad news is that you don’t get to choose. Actually, I separated my pregnant ghost shrimp so that her babies could have a chance to not get eaten when they hatch. Unfortunately, she died sometime in the night, so the babies are done for. The good news is that I have another pregnant ghost shrimp. Unfortunately, I’m down to 4 of them now, so I’m really counting on those babies to survive. It could be two weeks or more until they hatch, so for now, I wait. Maybe Walmart will still have some left next time we go down there. At any rate, I can’t abide the thought of life without ghost shrimp right now… Ok, maybe I could, but not very well.

shrimp babies

Well….not quite. One of my ghost shrimp (see previous post) now has eggs. Inside them are babies. Unlike the shrimp themselves, the eggs are not clear. They are bright green. How weird is that? I took about 25 pictures, and 3 of them turned out pretty good. They are the first 3 in that album. You may have to view the full versions to actually see the individual eggs. I’m going to have to do some more reading on how to care for the babies. Hopefully, I can find some way to keep them alive, but feeding may be a problem, as they are likely to be very small.

windows xp on a second hard drive

This is just a little note to myself (and to anyone else who may have this problem in the future). Windows refuses to boot unless it is installed on the first (primary/master) hard drive in your system. For most people, that’s not too big of a deal, but I’m installing it on the second one. Fortunately, GRUB (a boot-loader for linux) has a work around for this:

title Windows XP
map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)
chainloader (hd1,0)+1

The 2 lines beginning with ‘map’ are the key to making this work.

Note: this should also work with other versions of Windows (2000/98/95), although Vista may be a completely different animal.
